1977 Chestnut Mare

Dam of Buffmeadow Brooke [by Meadowbrook Comet], Buffmeadow Cooper [by Elm Hill High Hat], and Buffmeadow d'Vision [by Ultimate Command]

1977-2003

Goodbye, my friend.

The grand dame of my little farm, Victoria was queen of everything right up until the day she crossed over the rainbow bridge. She was a maternal sibling to the incomparable Immortal Command, and enjoyed a long and successful career as a very versatile show horse. After winning the Connecticut Nutmeg Futurity as a youngster, Victoria brought home blue ribbons in English Pleasure, Pleasure Driving, Western Pleasure and even Classic Pleasure. She and I made our last show ring appearance together at the 1998 Mother Lode Show, placing in the top three in each of her classes at the dignified age of 21 years old.

I spent all my junior and senior high school summers with Bunny and Phyllis Wiley, who were my "other family". They were like my parents and they made it possible for me to have Torrie. Bunny was losing a long battle with diabetes and wanted to see Torrie at one more show, so we took her to the Deerfield Fair (Torrie was five months pregnant with her first foal) and she won an open ladies pleasure (in western tack) out of 28, was 2nd behind Shirley Talman and Orcland Society Miss in western pleasure, and was 2nd in Morgan Pleasure Driving and 2nd In Hand, making quite a splash in Bunny's honor. She came home with me and never left.

BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME [by Diane Warren]

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For al the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through it all
You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'cause you believed
I'm everything I am because you loved me
You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you
You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

I'm everything I am
Because you loved me.
